Last month MasterTurbo received the award for Holset Platinum Distributor 2021! We are very proud to receive this wonderful award. MasterTurbo has been working with this brand for many years now, and in this blog we would like to shed some light on Holset.
Originating from the United Kingdom and founded in 1952, this large company is now internationally known. Brian Holmes and Paul Croset wanted to reflect the family names in their business and so Holset was born. As a small company, Holset focused mainly on the development of diesel engines.
The Swiss Dr. Alfred Büchi, the inventor of the turbo, gave the company permission to produce and sell turbochargers. In 1957 an agreement was made between Louis Schwitzer and Holset for the sale of turbochargers and rubber dampers in Europe.
Holset began to focus more and more on turbochargers. The millionth turbocompressor from Holset was made in 1973, and in the same year the company was acquired by Cummins Inc. Today, the company is indispensable in the world of turbochargers and engines.
Holset was taken over by Cummins Inc. but is still known as Holset today. The brand is an important part of the success of the Cummins engine brand, but also for many other well-known names outside its own brand. Large companies such as Volvo, Iveco, Detroit Diesel and Scania are Holset users.
The head office of Cummins Turbo Technologies is located in Huddersfield, England, but the headquarters of Cummins Inc. is now in Columbus, Indiana. The company has six factories around the world.
Proper replacement of a Holset turbocharger ensures less downtime, better power performance and lower fuel consumption. Holset turbochargers and components are built to meet the performance, reliability and durability of a specific engine. In addition, Cummins is the only manufacturer that focuses exclusively on turbo technologies for medium to heavy-duty diesel engines.
Holset offers turbochargers for various applications such as the agricultural sector, maritime sector and power generation. In addition, they are engaged in various technical developments, such as wastegate and power turbines.
Holset is committed to the following characteristics of their products:
The company has conducted several tests to see how their turbochargers perform in comparison to other turbochargers. Material research, chemical analysis of parts and detailed visual inspections are carried out. Turbos are complex components that can reach speeds as high as a jet engine. So the attention paid to each component is great. One part only has to be off by one millimetre and the performance of the turbo can go completely in the opposite direction.
With a Holset turbo, the company looks at every part with skill and specialism. For example, the company uses a metal alloy in ball bearings which reduces bearing wear and reacts appropriately to contaminants in dirty oil. Another example is the turbine wheel, which contains a higher nickel content and has a higher tensile strength and yield strength under extreme temperatures.
We are proud to be one of the official Holset distributors in the world and to apply our knowledge, specialisation and expertise to Holset products. MasterTurbo has already been working with the Holset brand for many years. We offer various products from Holset, such as original turbochargers, ReMan turbochargers and spare parts. We also do a lot of overhaul work with Holset turbochargers.
