In this blog series we discuss the work on turbo overhauls from Centrica Business Solutions. In this last part you will learn more about the cooperation between Centrica and MasterTurbo. We talked to customer Hanno van Spijker from the Purchasing and Logistics Department in Uithoorn about the turbos, Centrica and his experience with MasterTurbo.

The demand for overhaul

When the turbochargers are completely overhauled and ready for shipment, they are shipped to Centrica from our warehouse with enough space and the right protection. The turbos were collected from Groningen then taken to Uithoorn, where the pallet containing the seven turbos was delivered in good order.

These turbochargers are not directly mounted into a vehicle or machine, but put in the racks of Centrica's warehouse. "It is an ongoing process. Overhauled turbochargers are initially collected in storage and issued when required," says Hanno.

Matching Centrica's sustainable character is the preference for overhauls, because the company has the wear parts replaced in time and does not wait for a turbo to break down. "Turbos have a certain running hour rating and according to the manufacturer's proposal a turbo must be serviced after a certain rating. We stick to this proposal and the turbochargers are always sent for overhaul after a certain number of running hours."

The turbo for energy and services

Centrica Business Solutions is an international energy and service company with several branches, including in Uithoorn. Centrica helps clients to have an energy system that is future-proof and sustainable. This is achieved by deploying decentralised energy solutions, such as combined heat and power (CHP), energy monitoring, batteries or Demand Side Response solutions.

The overhauled turbochargers are also used to achieve this goal for the Centrica customer. "The turbochargers are used in natural gas-fired cogeneration plants that generate electricity and heat (also for greenhouse horticulture for CO2 to stimulate plant growth). These installations are used for various purposes, including heating retirement homes, swimming pools and horticultural greenhouses.

Centrica Business Solutions is active in more than 34 countries, including the Netherlands and Belgium, and provides energy and service solutions and ideas to more than 5,000 customers.

Customer's conclusion

MasterTurbo has already carried out maintenance orders and overhauls for Centrica several times, and this cooperation has always been maintained with an open contact and clear coordination. "With MasterTurbo you can just assume that everything will turn out right," says Hanno.
