Turbos have been doing their efficient work on the high seas for a long time. The first cargo ship with a diesel engine dates from 1903, the first tanker at sea with a diesel engine from 1910. Soon after the development of turbocharger technology, it was also successfully applied to marine engines. Today, 99% of all seagoing vessels operate with a diesel engine, usually in combination with a good turbocharger.
